The Ministry of Labor has indicated that more than 500,000 migrant workers have been registered since 15 June while reminding all employers to register their foreign employees by 14 July.
According to Permanent Secretary for Labor Somkiat Chayasriwong, the Office of Foreign Workers Administration of the Department of Employment reported that over 84,000 employers had brought in a total of 529,034 undocumented laborers for their registration nationwide from 15 June to 5 July. Out of the foreign workers, 366,062 were of Myanmar nationality; 50,364 were Lao; and 112,608 were Cambodian.
The Permanent Secretary urged employers to register their migrant workers by the deadline on 14 July; otherwise, their employment would be considered illegal in accordance with the Working of Aliens Act. The punishment for employers covers a fine of 10,000-100,000 THB per worker while illegal employees could face imprisonment of not more than five years and/or a fine of 2,000-100,000 THB.
