Science Ministry urges people to help flood drainage operation

The Science and Technology Ministry will offer free petrol to any volunteers who help with the flood drainage operation.

In his all-out effort to alleviate the impact to be brought on by a new round of flooding, Science and Technology Minister Plodprasob Suraswadi has called on residents along the Chao Phraya River banks who have their own boats to join this urgent mission.

Volunteers are asked to ignite their boats and tie them tightly. The boats’ heads must face north and tails must face south to divert the water into the sea. Those wishing to help save waterfront areas from further inundation are welcome to register at any government offices or call 081-496-6644 round the clock. The government will cover fuel expenses.

The water drainage operation must be completed within 10 days during which time water level will recede and will go up during October 17-18. The government has convened an urgent meeting to discuss measures in preparation for the arrival of four more storms.
